As a sign artist for Trader Joe's, I have the opportunity to work in ink, chalk, and paint. It's a fun and creative place! It also lets me indulge in my love of wordplay and puns. This sign pays homage to the old Saturday Night Live Conehead skits.
For the marinara and pasta sign, I borrowed from the graphics on the label.
There's always new wines arriving. . . the Holy Cow board brought a little wine imagery into the cowhide. And a little holiness, too.
Sometimes it's just the basic look of the label that works best, like this Nero d'Avola
The regular wine section signs are painted, the original inspiration was a postage stamp kind of look to reflect different countries. You can travel the world in the wine section. Start in Europe, in Italy. . .
. . .Then up to France. . .
. . . and sunny Spain.
Other parts of the world include Australia
and New Zealand.
And for a not entirely unrelated detour, a smaller "side stack" sign features an Irish brew.
